WHERE DO I START?
First of all we would recommend you come and see us for a chat and a free
consultation with a general introduction to the aspects involving
flying a helicopter.
HOW MUCH WILL THE TRAINING
COST?
This depends on which license you want and what helicopter you wish to fly
during your training. To minimize your cost, we offer an incentive
for flying blocks of 10 hours at a time. Or you can pay as you go.
This costs are outlined on the Pilot Training page.
HOW MUCH TIME WILL THE FLYING
TRAINING TAKE?
The time it takes for you to gain your license depends on you and how much
time you have to invest in your training. If you are able to invest
full time towards your helicopter license, you can achieve your
private license in as little as three months and your commercial
license in 6 months.
IS IT SAFE TO FLY HELICOPTERS?
A lot of people think that if the helicopter loses its engine that the
blades will collapse and the helicopter will fall out of the sky,
this is not the truth, every helicopter is equipped with a mechanism
that will allow the blades to keep turning in the event of an engine
failure. This then enables the helicopter to auto rotate safely to
the ground and make a perfectly safe landing.
IS IT EASY TO GET A JOB AFTER
I GET MY HELICOPTER LICENSE?
The job market for helicopter pilots is increasing. It might be tough in
the beginning, and you will have to be flexible and willing to move
around and look for work. A lot depends on you and your ability to
work hard towards finding the first job and having the right
attitude.
I'M WEARING GLASSES OR CONTACT
LENSES, IS THIS A PROBLEM?
No, as long as you meet the minimum CASA requirements for eyesight you are
fine.
AM I TOO YOUNG OR TOO OLD?
In order to be issued with a student pilot's license, you need to be at
least 16 years of age. To be issued a private license you need to be
17, and for a commercial license 18 years of age. There is no upper
limit, you are never too old to start your training for a helicopter
license, its never too late to peruse your dream.
DO YOU NEED TO BE IN
EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD HEALTH?
You do need to pass a medical examination prior to be issued a pilot's
license in order to prove that you are in general good health.
WHAT EDUCATIONAL
QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?
CASA does not require any formal educational qualifications prior to gain
an Australian pilot's license. All you need to do is pass the
appropriate Pilot's License exam for the rating sought, which is
well within the scope of an average person.
DO YOU NEED TO BE A GENIUS TO
FLY A HELICOPTER?
Would be great to say yes, that would make every helicopter pilot out to
be a genius, but no, you do not have to be a genius to learn how to
fly a helicopter. Just keep your eyes and ears open, study hard and
give it all your concentration during flight training and you will
make it.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN PRIVATE AND COMMERCIAL LICENSES?
The Helicopter Private License (PPL-H) is the first license you can attain
which allows the holder to carry passengers without remuneration.
The Helicopter Commercial License (CPL-H) is what you need to be
able to start your career as a professional helicopter pilot.
DO I NEED AN AIRPLANE LICENSE
BEFORE I START MY HELICOPTER TRAINING?
No, you do not need an airplane license before you start your helicopter
pilot training. Some people get their airplane license first to save
money towards their helicopter license, but this also leaves you
with less helicopter flight hours. So when you are looking for your
first job as a helicopter pilot you have less hours in a helicopter
than the pilots who have done their full training in a helicopter
towards their commercial pilots license. |
